In the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, plaintiffs Meagan Billedeau and Melanie Daigle have filed a lawsuit against Kia America, Inc. The case ID is 6:24-cv-00518-RRS-CBW and it was filed on April 18, 2024. The plaintiffs are accusing Kia of selling them a defective vehicle.

Billedeau and Daigle purchased a new 2023 Kia Selos from Sterling Kia on April 6, 2023. They claim that the vehicle had numerous defects which were discovered shortly after purchase. The sales price of the Selos was $32,814.06 and they are also seeking an award for nonpecuniary damages under La. Civil Code Articles 1998 in the amount of $50,000.

The plaintiffs allege that despite returning their Selos to Kia and its authorized dealers for repairs on numerous occasions, the company has failed to repair it. They also claim that they directly notified Kia about these defects multiple times.

Billedeau and Daigle are seeking judgment against Kia for breach of implied warranties of redhibition. They are asking for rescission of the sale, return of the purchase price plus all collateral costs of the sale, finance charges, insurance premiums, out-of-pocket expenses, and non-pecuniary damages.
