Seaman sues after being hit by high pressure hydraulic fluid

Boudreaux

NEW ORLEANS - A seaman has filed a lawsuit against his employer claiming that while working on a defective hydraulic pump he was injured when he was thrown six feet after being hit by high pressure hydraulic fluid.

Stanley Taylor filed suit against Noble Corp. and Noble Drilling Corp. on June 14 in federal court in New Orleans.

The alleged incident occurred on Aug. 3, 2011 as Taylor was working as a crewmember of the Noble Driller installing a hydraulic pump. Taylor states that the valves were defective and when he went to check the wrench size on the valve, it failed. Hydraulic fluid under pressure of 3000 psi hit Taylor in the head and face. The force caused him to be blown backwards approximately six feet and fall to the deck of the vessel.

The plaintiff is asking the court for an award of $3 million in damages for depression, marital strife, changes in lifestyle, mental and physical pain, suffering and disability, loss of earnings or earning capacity, maintenance and cure, and interest.

Taylor is represented by Barry J. Boudreaux and John D. Schoonenberg of Henderson, Reilly & Boudreaux in Houma.

U.S. District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown is assigned to the case.
