Seaman sues employer for not providing adequate benefits to treat injury

NEW ORLEANS - After slipping in hydraulic fluid and water and injuring his back, a St. Mary Parish seaman has filed a lawsuit against his employer claiming the company is refusing to provide him with adequate cure benefits for medical treatment.

Larry Hue Jr. filed suit against Rentrop Tugs Inc. on April 10 in federal court in New Orleans.

The alleged incident occurred on Oct. 16, 2011 as Hue was working aboard the Chelsea A as a deckhand for the defendant. Hue states that he injured his back as he was attempting to pull cable from across the deck and fell backwards.

At the time of the incident, a mixture of hydraulic fluid and water had pooled up along the portside of the vessel from which they were pulling the cable.

The defendant is accused of negligence and for refusing to provide Hue with care.

The plaintiff is seeking damages for pain, prolonged suffering, loss of his home, work limitations, medical expenses, maintenance and cure, punitive damages, attorney's fees, interest, and court costs.

Hue is represented by Robert C. Martell by Martell & Associates in New Orleans.

U.S. District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown is assigned to the case.
