Woman claims medical malpractice after falling off procedure table while sedated

NEW ORLEANS – A New Orleans woman filed a lawsuit against her healthcare providers alleging she received preventable injuries while in their care.

Gloria Charbonnet filed suit on Jan. 20 in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court against Tarun Jolly, M.D., Ochsner Health System and other support staff.

Charbonnet claims she was injected with a sedative in anticipation of a steroid injection meant to treat severe back pain, but that when she awoke she was notified she had fallen off the procedure table and had not been given the injection. The plaintiff alleges the fall resulted in a head contusion, dizziness, headaches, lower back pain and pain in the right lower limb. The plaintiff also alleges she was diagnosed with depression, insomnia, anxiety, fatigue and nausea following the incident.

An unspecified amount in damages is being sought for pain and suffering, medical expenses, loss of enjoyment of life and loss of consortium.

Charbonnet is being represented by Bryan K. Jefferson of New Orleans-based Barker, Boudreaux, Lamy and Foley.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge Robin M. Giarrusso.
