Diagnostic and Interventional Spinal Care of Louisiana, Inc. (AVALA Spine) and Compounding Pharmacies of Louisiana, Inc. (Professional Arts Pharmacy) have filed a class action lawsuit against UnitedHealth Group Incorporated, Optum, Inc., and Change Healthcare Inc. The case was filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana under case number 2:24-cv-01011 on April 22, 2024.

The plaintiffs allege that the defendants failed to protect highly sensitive personal, medical, and financial information they process and maintain. This alleged failure led to a data breach involving billions of records of innocent customers. The lawsuit also claims that the defendants did not immediately notify those affected or take immediate steps to mitigate the damages caused.

The complaint further alleges that the defendants' failure to patch critical software effectively and promptly has made them particularly susceptible to cyberattacks. This alleged negligence has resulted in substantial harm to the plaintiffs' businesses and their ability to provide care to patients.

The plaintiffs are seeking judgment against the defendants for their alleged failure to follow data security protocols. They claim that this failure has led to significant damages, including disruption of patient care and business operations.
