Tyrick Lege has filed a lawsuit against Diamond Offshore Drilling, Inc., Diamond Offshore, LLC, and BP Exploration & Production, Inc. in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana. The case ID is 3:24-cv-00323-BAJ-SDJ and was filed on April 24, 2024.

The plaintiff alleges that while working aboard the ultra-deepwater drill ship, Ocean Blackhornet, he slipped and fell resulting in severe injuries. The incident occurred on June 19, 2021, when Lege was employed by Ecoserv LLC as part of an offshore cleaning crew. As a result of the fall, Lege suffered a severe open fracture to his right lower leg which has required four major surgeries to date and other significant medical treatment.

Lege is seeking damages under the General Maritime Law from all defendants for his injuries. He claims that Diamond had ultimate control over Ocean Blackhornet and all activities on it at all relevant times. He also alleges that BP maintained control over work activities on the vessel in accordance with its obligations.
